Short cv:

I am an Integrated Master’s student in Applied Physics from the Sardar Vallabhbhai National Institute of Technology, Surat, India. Currently I am working on my Master’s thesis at the Climate Change Research Centre, University of New South Wales, Sydney, under the supervision of Professor Matthew England.

My current project is aimed at understanding the nature of Antarctic melt rates and their effects on sea level rise. I use the Potsdam Parallel Ice Sheet Model (PISM-PIK), which was developed based on the Parallel Ice Sheet Model (PISM) of the University of Alaska, Fairbanks, and the Potsdam Institute of Climate Impact Research, where I learned how to work with the model. I study ice shelf melt rates based on IPCC’s RCP-projected temperature anomalies for surface, atmosphere and ocean. Most of the data I use is based on satellite data and with the help of this expedition I will learn more about in-situ measurements and how to study ocean currents and related temperature characteristics.

Having never had hands-on experience, this expedition will provide me with knowledge of collecting observational data, sampling techniques to determine ocean temperatures at various depths and ocean hydrology. It is an amazing opportunity that will provide me with the skills to better my research methods and knowledge of data collection.
