Short cv:

I am a first year PhD student in the department of Ocean, Earth and Atmospheric Sciences at the Old Dominion University, USA. I have completed my MS from the Department of Oceanography at the University of Dhaka, Bangladesh. My MS dissertation was about the seasonal circulation in the northern Bay of Bengal. The Bay of Bengal is highly dynamic with huge sediment discharge from the GBM (Ganges-Brahmaputra-Meghna) river system, and that the circulation was strongly influenced by monsoon winds. I used satellite altimetry data to characterize sea surface heights, and to approximate geostrophic circulations in the northern Bay of Bengal. After obtaining my MS, I spent two months in the Laboratoire d'Etudes enGéophysique et Océanographie Spatiales (LEGOS) in Toulouse, France, where I improved my skills in dealing with altimetry data and worked closely with French Scientists of IRD on estimating the tidal constituents of the Bay of Bengal from satellite altimetry.  Moreover, before starting my PhD, I taught ocean sciences at Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman Maritime University for one and a half years in Bangladesh.

I believe that this programme will provide me with invaluable practical oceanography skills that will continue to serve me as I pursue my career in oceanography. Most of my past experience in oceanography has focused on the analysis of satellite-based data sets. I am very keen to broaden my skill set and gain a better understanding of methods for in situ sampling. A broader skill set will better equip me to conduct studies of ocean conditions and processes.
