Short cv:

I got a degree in physical oceanography from the Facultad de Ciencias Exactas y Naturales (FCEN, https://exactas.uba.ar/) of the Universidad de Buenos Aires (UBA). I am currently a PhD student at the Centro para el Estudio de Sistemas Marinos (CESIMAR) – Centro Nacional Patagónico (CENPAT) of Puerto Madryn city, Argentine, with a fellowship from the Consejo Nacional de Investigaciones Científicas y Técnicas (CONICET) until April 2021.

Together with my supervisors (Professor Andrés L. Rivas and Professor Cédric Chavanne) we are focusing on the mesoscale/sub-mesoscale (hundreds of meters to a few tens of kilometers) dynamic of a tidal front located south of San Jorge Gulf, Patagonian Shelf (Carbajal, J.C., A.L. Rivas, and C. Chavanne. 2018. High-frequency frontal displacements south of San Jorge Gulf during a tidal cycle near spring and neap phases: Biological implications between tidal states. My main interests are in linking physical processes to ocean biogeochemistry and plankton ecosystem, and waters exchange processes between the Gulf and the Argentinian Continental Shelf.

I have been aboard of a canadian vessel (Coriolis II) when I was finishing my degree and there I met Professor Cédric Chavanne. During that time I worked in the calibration and the processing of data from different instruments, such as CTD vertical profiler (SBE911plus) with auxiliary sensors and water samples from the rosette (SBE32). The most relevant instrument was a towed undulating vehicle (Scanfish II) with a CTD SBE49 and a FLNTU sensor that we used to measure the high-frequency displacements of the tidal front. That cruise was in the framework of an international cooperation program between Argentina and Canada. Then, during my PhD I have been aboard of the national vessel ARA Puerto Deseado in spring of 2016 and 2017 in the framework of the program Pampa Azul, and currently, expeditions are suspended due to lack of money from the Argentine state.                 

I am very gratefully to NF-POGO and Professor Dr. Martin Visbeck to let me be part of the M159 cruise aboard R/V METEOR. It will be a unique opportunity to work side-by-side with top-experience scientists, learn working in deep waters and caught more experience on operations aboard. It will also be a great opportunity to learn how works other institutions such as the GEOMAR.
